A Moment in Time

Racism is treating people as ‘others’

The opposite of acting like brothers

We are not designed to be the same

Whatever we are, we are not to blame

….

Is it part of the human condition

To want to establish our position

In some imaginary pecking order

‘Us’ versus ‘them’ from a historic border

….

It seems we have an inner need

Looking down on some other creed

To feel a bit better about our lot

Rejecting notions of a mixing pot

….

But assimilation is nature’s way

Differences, ultimately, become passé

Though bigotry and injustice may cause delay

All will be free to be who they are, one day

….

Until then, use well the power to vote

Campaign peacefully, equality promote

Practise humanity, value all life

Have empathy, turn your back on strife

Brexit Impasse

Just how crazy can it get?

This cruelly wasted chance

No clear way forward emerging yet

We’re being led a merry dance

‘Leaders’ push, pull, point, all in vain

They’re facing different ways

Concerned only, it seems, for political gain

Yet running out of days

Decision referred to a people’s vote

Then lurching to a general election

This circus must have seemed remote

All oblivious to sure EU rejection

Cometh the hour, cometh the man?

With courage to grasp the nettle?

A will-do attitude, not ‘no-can’

A LEADER who has some mettle

But no one out there seems up to the job

They’re letting the UK down

I’ve wasted two votes and want to sob

Was it me who was the clown?

The UK General Election

A cross put on a paper

Seems simple in a way

Amazing, then, that this small act

Empowers each to have a say

The outcome isn’t as I’d hoped for

I’m quite worried by the result

But I can accept the majority view

That’s what it means to be adult

Some people see it differently

Wanting to impose a new regime

Cars, bombs and knives as weapons

Murdering to achieve their dream

Let them not take away our rights

Hold our laws and freedoms dear

They must not win by violence

We will not live in fear

If society is built on values

With some common moral code

Life and liberty are the bedrock

And democracy the road
